Week 10.2

The assignment for expressive word project is to come up with an expressive word, and we had to create a design that illustrates the word. The concept I use for this project is I had to think of an expressive word I wanted to use for the project. The word I use for the expressive word project is excited. Then I drew a thumbnail of the word excited to come up with an idea to illustrate the word excited. I only use one program for this project. The program I use is Maya 8.5 Fundamentals. I use the text tool to type out the words excited in Maya 8.5 Fundamentals. I use the Bevel tool to stretch out the word excited, and I use the plane tool to draw a plane. I use the move tool to stretch the plane out, and I place the plane under the word excited. I copy and paste the word excited, and I rotate the second excited so it would be upside down from the first excited. I rotate the second excited because I wanted the second excited to look a reflection of the first excited. Next I use point lights to get a reflection on the word excited, and I use render settings to see how the reflection of the word excited would really look like. Another thing is I chose to use bright colors for the word excited. I chose bright colors because I felt the bright colors would illustrate the word excited. I chose the front Times New Roman. I chose Times New Roman because I thought this front would work good to illustrate the word excited. I had problems with this project. The first problem I had with the expressive word project is I could not get the point lights to work the way I wanted to work. The second problem I had with this project is I could not get the render setting work for me. I solve the first problem I had with the expressive word project by getting the point lights to point in the right direction. I solved the second problem I had with this project by finally getting the render settings to work the way I wanted it to work.

Week 10.1

The assignment for the t-shirts and shorts project was to create eight marketing collateral pieces for your eco resort. The t-shirts and shorts are two pieces of clothes I created. The concept I use for this project is I first look on the internet to see how to draw shorts. I use two programs for the t-shirts and shorts project. The two programs I use are Illustrator and Photoshop. I use Illustrator to create the shorts, and I found a t-shirt template in Illustrator. I open the shorts up in Photoshop, and I use the paint bucket tool add color to the shorts. Then I open the shorts up in Illustrator to place the shorts on a presentation sheet, and I copy and paste the t-shirts on the presentation sheet with the shorts.

Next I chose the color dark green because I felt the color would be good to use for the t-shirts and shorts project. I use the color dark green for the word Botánico because I felt dark green would stand out on the t-shirts. Then I chose the front Harrington to use for the word Botánico, boy’s shorts and girl’s shorts because I wanted the words to look like vines. I had problems with the t-shirts and shorts project. The first problem I had with this project is finding shorts on the internet that I could use to trace over in Illustrator. The other problem I had with the t-shirts and shorts project is getting the rectangles around the t-shirts to come apart from the t-shirts. I solved the first problem by finally finding doll shorts I could use to trace over to make the shorts in Illustrator. I solved the second problem I had with this project by ungrouping the rectangles that were around the t-shirts; which I click on the rectangles individually to delete them. Later I went on Google to search for another Graphic Design blog, and I found a Graphic Design blog called thinkdesignblog.com. I look at an article called Inspiration-25 Different, Creative Site Designs written by Nick Pagano. The article talked about different ways to design websites. I like the way the author Nick Pagano showed different websites and how they are created.

Week 9.2

The assignment for book jacket 3 is to design and comp a series of three book sleeves/ book jackets for related titles. The book series I use is called The Norton Anthology of World Literature. The concept I use for this project is I drew thumbnails to come up with ideas to use to create the book jacket. I used a check list, creative/production est. paper, and project description paper for book jacket 3. Then I look on Google to find a Renaissance picture to use for this project. The programs I use for this project is Quarkxpress, and Adobe Acrobat. I use Quarkxpress to create book jacket 3, and create a PDF file. I use Adobe Acrobat to open the PDF file of book jacket 3. The reason why I chose the colors dark green, black, gold because I felt those colors would make the picture I chose stand out on front and back cover of the book jacket. I chose the italic front for the title because I thought the italic front would make the title look like a world literature book. Another thing is I had problems with book jacket 3. The first problem I had with this project is placing the shapes the in side the outline of the book jacket. The second problem I had with book jacket 3 is getting the words on back cover to line up right. I could not solve the first problem because I kept having problems getting the shapes to be place inside the outline of the book jacket. Also I could not solve the second problem because I still had a problem with the words on the back cover being too close to the edge of the white rectangle.

Week 9.1

The assignment for book jacket 2 is to design and comp a series of three book sleeves/ book jackets for related titles. The book series of three I use is called The Norton Anthology of World Literature. The concept I use for this project is I drew thumbnails to come up with ideas to use to create the book jacket. I use a check list, creative/production est. paper, and project description paper for the book jacket 2 project. I look on morguefile.com to get a picture of Ancient China to use for the front and back cover of the book jacket. I used two programs for this project. The programs I use are Quarkxpress and Adobe Acrobat. I use Quarkxpress to create book jacket 2, and I create a PDF file in Quarkxpress. I use Adobe Acrobat to open the PDF file of book jacket 2. Then the reason why I chose the colors dark red, black, and gold is because I felt that those colors would work good together. The reason why I chose the fronts I chose is because I thought those fronts would be good to use for a world literature book.

Another thing is I did have problems with the book jacket 2. The first problem I had with this project is getting the words on the back cover to be place where I wanted them to be place. The second problem I had with the book jacket 2 is getting the shapes to be place the right way in the out line of the book jacket. I tried to solve the first problem by placing the words in the white square, but the words kept getting closer to the edge of the white square. I tried to solve the second problem I had by placing the shapes I use in the out line of the book jacket the right way, but I still could not get the shapes to be place in the out line of the book jacket the way I wanted it to be. Later I went on to another graphic design blog called youthedesigner.com. I felt that blog was helpful to me because the blog show me good examples on how to create a log in page for a website.
