Week 4.2

The assignment for the Word and Image Juxtapose was to create a list of twenty nouns, and create twenty verbs. The other part of the assignment was to create three word pairs that were provocative, and we had to pick pictures that we felt would help out the word pairs. The concept I used for this project was I had to look at pictures from an art folder, and I had to decide what pictures to used for the Word and Image Juxtapose project. One of the word pairs I chose was fighting cabbage. The reason why I chose the colors green and black for the two pictures is I felt the colors green and black would go good together. I chose the color gold for the words fighting cabbage is I thought gold would make the words fighting cabbage stand out on the backgrounds. Then the reason why I chose Blackletter front is because I thought this front would be good to used on the pictures. I encountered problems with the Word and Image Juxtapose project. The first problem I had with this project is I had a hard time finding the right pictures to used. The second problem I had with the Word and Image Juxtapose project is changing the pictures to different colors.I solved the first problem by finally finding the pictures I felt would be good to used for backgrounds. Also I solved the second problem by finding the right colors to change pictures to.

Week 4.1

The air race poster was assignment I had to do Graphic Symbolism class. The assignment was to create iconic poster graphics without the additional text and other elements you might normally find on a poster, and we had to look at art nouveau, art deco, and psychedelic posters to decide what type of posters we wanted to create. The concept I used for the air race poster is I first look at poster.com website to see how art nouveau and art deco posters looked. Second I decided to pick three events I wanted to create posters for. Third I looked at mourguefile website to look for pictures to used for the three events I was going to create posters for. One of the three events I chose to make a poster for is Air race.
Another thing is the reason why I chose the color scheme I chose is because I wanted the colors match the colors I saw on art nouveau posters I looked at. The programs I used for the air race poster is Photoshop, Illustrator, and Quarkxpress. I used Photoshop to look at pictures I was going to used for air race poster. I open the picture I chose for the air race poster in Illustrator; so I could live trace the picture. The live trace allow the picture to look like an art nouveau poster. I open the air race poster in Quarkxpress to save the poster as a PDF file. I did not use any front for this poster. I encountered problems with this poster. The first problem I encountered with the air race poster is I had a hard time finding a picture I could use for the air race poster. The second problem I encountered with this poster is I could not get the live paint in Illustrator to trace the picture the way I wanted it to work. I solved the first problem by finally finding a good picture I could used for the air race poster, and I solved the second problem by the live paint in Illustrator finally tracing the picture the way I wanted the picture to look.

Week 3.2

The concept I came up with for this Hero Character project I had to decided what kind of character I wanted to create, and I did this by drawing sketches of a running carrot. Then I drew a sketch of a carrot facing forward. The reason why I chose to have a vegetable as a hero character is because my professor one day in Digital Illustration drew a hero character named Broccoli Man. The reason why I named my vegetable hero Larry the Carrot is because one day name just came to me in my head. I created Larry the Carrot in Illustrator, and Photoshop. The reason why I chose the colors orange, and green for the carrot is because I knew that most carrots were orange, and most carrots had a green top on them. I chose the dark shade of blue, light blue, orange, and gold because I felt that those colors would go great together on the toy box.I chose to draw stars on the toy box because I felt that the stars would help bring vegetable hero out more. The reason why I chose the front I chose is because I thought that typeface would be a good typeface to used for the words I was going to write, and I chose to make the words gold because I thought that gold would make the words stand out.
Another thing is I had problems working in Illustrator with Larry the Carrot because I could not get the legs fit together like they were suppose to, and I could not get the curvy lines at the bottom of the carrot to come together. Then I had a problem working in Photoshop with Larry the Carrot because I could not get the diamond shape to look like it was plastic covering the toy. I solved the problems in Illustrator by finally getting the legs on the carrot to actually fit together, and I solved the other problem I had in Illustrator by getting curvy lines on the bottom of the carrot to come together. Also I solved the problem I had with working in Photoshop with Larry the Carrot by just letting the diamond shape just stay like it was because I could not get it to work the way I wanted it to work.

Week 3.1

The concept I use for the Art Deco Project is I first to go to poster.com website to look at Art Deco posters help me decide how I wanted to create my own Art Deco Poster. Then I started to draw triangles on sketch paper. I chose to draw a Christmas Tree because when I took Digital Illustration it was closer to Christmas time. The program I used to create the Art Deco Poster in was Illustrator. Illustrator allow me to created this illustration the way I wanted it to be. The reason why I chose this color scheme is because when I felt that the colors red, green black, white, and gold would be good colors to use in a Art Deco poster. I chose the calligraphy typeface because see this type been used before on Christmas cards.

The problems I had with the Art Deco poster was I had a hard time deciding if I wanted to keep the triangles I used for the Christmas tree completely green, and I had a hard time deciding were to place the words on the Art Deco poster. I solve first problem by realizing that it would be good to have half of the Christmas tree to be black and the other half to stay green. I solve the second problem by coming to the conclusion that the words would best fit coming down from each other on the poster.

Week 2.2

I created the Pattern project in Graphic Symbolism class. The Pattern project assignment was where we were to create a pattern with using nature, and we had to chose a plant we wanted to use for this project. I started my concept out by looking on Morguefie.com for plants. Then I download the plant pictures that I like to used for the Pattern project. Next I look at the pictures in Photoshop to see which plant picture would be the best to used. I pick the picture with vines that had leaves on them. The picture I picked came out looking like a pattern when I first open it in Photoshop. After that I change the color of the picture with using Hue/Saturation. I chose the purple background because I felt that purple would make the vines and leaves stand out more.

My professor told me that I should make a copy of the vines and leaves pattern, and my professor told me that I should change copy background color to a different color from the original one. I chose those colors because my professor told me that the picture would look better if different colors, and my professor told me that it would make the patterns stand out more.
I had problems with the Pattern project because I at first had a hard time find good plant pictures that would really work for the Pattern project, and I had a hard time deciding what colors I wanted the pattern to be. I solve the first problem by finally finding a good plant picture that I could used for the Pattern project, and I solve the second problem by deciding to change the background color to purple. Also at the end I end up enjoying the Pattern project because I was allow to created unique patterning.

Week 2.1

The Self Portrait poster was an final project assignment I had in Concept Design Class. My professor wanted us to take pictures for the Self Portrait poster, and we had to dress up like we were going to job interview. I took several pictures of myself for the Self Portrait poster. The concept used for the Self Portrait poster is I had to look at several pictures of myself. Then I had to chose a picture that I wanted to used for the Self Portrait poster. After that I open the pictures in Photoshop; which I look at the pictures to see which one I wanted to used for the Self Portrait poster. I open the picture in Illustrator to create the background I wanted for the Self Portrait poster. I open the picture in Indesign to create a PDF file that would be printed.
Another thing is the reason why I chose gold for the background is because I felt that gold would the picture of me stand out better. I chose the dark and bright colors for the stars because I thought the dark and bright colors would make the stars stand out on the gold background. I chose to draw the stars in different sizes because I wanted the stars to look different from each other. Also the problems I encountered with the Self Portrait poster is I at first had a hard time making a choice on what picture I wanted to used for the Self Portrait poster, and I had a hard time changing the poster design I originally had because l like the first design I had. The other problems I had with the Self Portrait poster was my professor wanting me to add different types of flowers to the poster, and I had hard time adding different flowers to poster. I solved the first problem I had by finally picking the picture of myself that I felt would be the best to used for the Self Portrait poster. I solved the second problem I had by adding the different flowers to the poster at first, but I had to finally change the poster design to a different design from the original one because the original design did not work as well as I thought it would.

Week 1.1

I created the tea labels for this project in Package Design class. The assignment for the tea labels was we had to pick one of the four compaines that we wanted to create package labels for. The concept I did for the company Trendy Teas that I chose is I first look at package label pages. Then I drew thumbnails for Trendy Teas. I drew the coffee cups, and leaves in Illustrator. The programs I used for this project is Illustrator and Quarkxpress. After that I drew the coffee cups and leaves in Illustrator, and I open the Trendy Teas labels up in Quarkxpress to saved it as a PDF file.
Another thing is the reason why I chose the colors dark blue and hot pink is I wanted to show different type of teas that Trendy Teas has to offer. The reason why I this front is I thought this front would be good to chose for the labels.
Also I had problems with the package label project. The first problem I had with this project is the first company I chose did not work out the way I wanted it to work. The second problem I had with the package label project is I had to decide were I wanted to place the leaves on the labels. I solved the first problem by changing to a different company. I solved the second problem by placing the leaves on the corners of the labels. I learned from this project that package design is not easy to create because you have to think of a package design that will really work for your product.

Week 1.1

I in Digital Layout class had to create three posters for a event called South University Columbia Student Exhibition. This is the first poster I created for the South University Columbia Student Exhibition. The concept I used for this project is I had to think how I wanted to design the South University Columbia Student Exhibition poster. I had to decided what shapes I wanted to for this poster. I came up with the idea for the South University Student Exhibition poster by thinking about the design in my head. I used Quarkxpress to create the designs, and the front for this poster. I chose these colors because my professor told me that I can only used red and black for the South University Student Exhibition poster. The reason why I chose the front Helvetica is because I felt the front would be good to used for this poster.
Another thing is I had problems with the first poster I created for the South University Student Exhibition. The first problem I had with this poster is I did not know the right place to put the rectangle shapes on the poster. The second problem I had with the South University Student Exhibition poster is I did not find a good place to put the words for this poster. I solved the first problem I had with this poster by placing one of the rectangles up top, I place the second rectangle on the bottom, and I decided to have the other two rectangles cross each other in the middle. I solved the second problem I had with the South University Student Exhibition poster by placing the words under the first rectangle. I also found out that I liked creating posters.
